Organizing the program was Green Lawn Volunteer Coordinator Sandi Latimer,to the right of the Southworth-Hooey marker, while another speaker, baseball historian Joe Santry, the public relations director of the Columbus Clippers, stands behind her. Southworth purchased the lot in1949 when his best friend Robert Hooey died of injuries suffered in a traffic accident. Southworth said it was "the only thing I could do for my best friend." Hooey was sports editor the Columbus newspaper Ohio State Journal and had served as president of both the Baseball Writers' Association of America and Football Writers' Association of America.

his nieces and nephews and their families as well as baseball fans from the area.
